La imagen corporal no sólo significa la manera en que una persona percibe su cuerpo, sino también la forma en que siente y actúa sobre estas percepciones (Rosen, 1995), cobrando importancia nuevas formas de pensar y habitar los cuerpos y su correlato en la imagen corporal donde las expresiones de género abandonen la connotación binaria (Torruco López et al. 2017). El objetivo de este trabajo es conocer las experiencias y vivencias de adolescencias y juventudes respecto del proceso de transición en relación a la construcción de la imagen corporal y su relación con la salud mental. Se parte de un estudio cualitativo con adolescencias y juventudes trans de edades entre 16 y 24 años que residen en la ciudad de San Luis (Argentina). El instrumento fue la entrevista en profundidad analizando la información mediante la Teoría Fundamentada (Strauss y Corbin, 2002). Las categorías que emergieron fueron: relación consigo mismas y mismos, vínculos afectivos en diferentes entornos sociales y su relación con la imagen corporal. Así la imagen del cuerpo adquiere consideración trascendental, en el centro de la escena de la construcción de la identidad de género y la salud mental.
