El analista es deudor del encuentro de Freud con la resistencia en el dispositivo de la tranferencia. En El texto “Recordar, repetir y reelaborar” (1914) plantea que la reelaboración de las resistencias es la pieza de trabajo que produce el máximo efecto alterador sobre el paciente y que distingue al tratamiento analítico de todo influjo sugestivo. A partir de la ruptura epistémica que produce con introducción de la pulsión de muerte y su consecuencia necesaria la segunda tópica (yo-ello-superyo), la finalidad de la cura y el quehacer clínico quedan reformulados. En los textos freudianos de la última época, en relación con la política del final de una cura, es posible pensar un desdoblamiento de la operación analítica propuesta por Freud en el texto “Análisis terminable e interminable” respecto de la represión primaria. Por un lado la rectificación de la dimensión económica y por otro la ratificación de la dimensión representacional. Los nombres que estas dos operaciones, efecto de la experiencia analítica, tienen en la obra de Freud son: 1) la ventajosa alteración del yo y 2) el consentimiento de la escisión del yo.
