Presentaremos en el siguiente trabajo una visión cualitativa y cuantitativa desde el punto de vista psicológico del centro geriátrico SEM ubicado en la ciudad de La Plata, capital de la provincia de Buenos Aires; intentando mostrar las consecuencias que provoca el cuidado de personas con demencias como el mal de Alzheimer, y la frecuencia con la que se muestra el síndrome de Burnout. Analizamos aquí las características que notamos en las 12 cuidadoras que se encargan diariamente de las pacientes que se encuentran en este recinto, que son aproximadamente 40 con variaciones cotidianamente.Vamos a elucidar también como se genera y que vinculo se establece con los pacientes, desde el punto de vista de las cuidadoras. Tomaremos como definición de Burnout la establecida por Eduardo Sicardi y Patricia Novo en el texto llamado “Estrés y Burnout”(2006), para corroborar la existencia de este síndrome en el centro geriátrico utilizaremos el cuestionario de Maslach Burnout Inventory. Y como definición de Alzheimer establecida por Raúl Arizaga en el libro llamado “Deterioro Cognitivo y Demencias”.
