Este trabajo se enmarca en un Proyecto de Investigación dirigido a caracterizar las dinámicas y decisiones curriculares que intervienen en el trayecto académico de los docentes que acceden a los circuitos de capacitación. Expone y analiza las representaciones que los docentes que cursan la Especialización enAtención a la diversidad, en el Instituto de Perfeccionamiento Docente (IPD) Tucumán, han construido con respecto a su función de docente. Presenta sintéticamente cuestiones referidas al debate en torno al concepto de representaciones sociales y sus efectos en el plano de la investigación empírica. Con un enfoque metodológico cualitativo, se solicitó a los cursantes que describieran las condiciones que deberían reunir los docentes en el desempeño de su función. Los resultados indican que los cursantes han construido representaciones acerca de la función docente organizadas alrededor de dos ejes: como una persona abierta (con apertura) a los cambios y para entender a sus alumnos y como una persona capacitada para proteger (atender) a sus alumnos. Palabras clave Representaciones sociales Función docente ABSTRACT Between the protection and the openning: teacher`s illustrations in a training process This investigation is part of a Research Project directed to characterize the dynamics and decisions that take part in the post-degree training of the teachers that have access to the learning circuits. It exposes and analyses the mental representations that have constructed about their own function as teachers in the teachers enrolled in the specializing courses of "Attention to Diversity" in the IPD (Teacher Training Institute) Tucumán. It synthetically represents questions referred to the debate about the concept of the social representations and their effects within the field of empiric research. Following a qualitative methodological focus, it was required from the teachers taking the course, to describe the conditions that should be present in the teachers in their teaching practice. The results indicate that the students have constructed mental representations about the teaching function following two axes: as a person trained to protect his/her students and as a person to opening.
