The following article focuses on the relationship between crime narratives and the fait divers or French feuilletons of the yellow press in the XIX, analyzing how their discursive potential has contributed to the social constructions and cultural stereotyping of criminal figures and their crimes across literature and film studies. The study examines how these constructions provided a cultural frame of reference that functioned as a discursive tool of the dominant ideology from which stems state authority and legal control. The study proposes an interdisciplinary approach that integrates, literary, film, and media studies to analyse an emblematic national case whose media treatment appealed to satisfy the social fascination with crime and violence. In this way, the analysis focuses on how the saturation of public opinion and the radical political reaction revealed both the media and the press’ reconfiguration of les fait divers as strategies that show their alliance with the government's political agenda functional to patriarchal discourses and practices.
