A diferencia de otros modos de ironía, la ironía retórica está a favor del lazo social porque necesita de la sanción del Otro del discurso para constituirse como tal. Lejos de cuestionar la coherencia formal, propia del saber del amo, esta forma de la ironía se apoya en ella y no hace más que confirmar la eficacia discursiva aunque, en un principio, aparente contradecirla. Quien dice una ironía se ubica en el orden de la comunicación, busca la complicidad, el lazo con el otro. Quiere que se lo entienda, pero no quiere que se lo entienda de forma ordinaria. Aquí, la ironía necesita de la sanción del otro para constituirse como tal. La ironía no dice lo que quiere comunicar, dice lo contrario, pero da a entender, insinúa, por eso se torna de vital importancia la interpretación del oyente. Far from questioning the formal coherence characteristic of the master’s knowledge, this form of irony rests on it and only confirms the discursive efficacy although, at first, it seems to contradict it. Who says an irony is located in the order of communication, seeks complicity, the bond with the other. He wants to be understood, but he does not want it to be understood in an ordinary way. Here, irony needs the sanction of the other to be constituted as such. The irony does not say what it wants to communicate, it says the opposite, but it implies, insinuates, that is why the interpretation of the listener becomes of vital importance.
