Las Fuerzas Armadas tienen que replantearse cuáles son los conocimientos y las habilidades necesarias de un líder militar en un nuevo contexto cambiante, con nuevas mo‑dalidades de guerra pero al mismo tiempo con sistemas democráticos más instituidos en todo el mundo. Los objetivos de este estudio son indagar el grado de motivación para liderar de los cadetes, las características fundamentales que describen al liderazgo militar, y la importancia que le adjudican al ejemplo personal. Se realizó un estudio noexperimental, transversal, descriptivo-correlacional. Se diseñó un cuestionario auto-administrable que se aplicó a 462 cadetes del Colegio Militar de la Nación. Los resultados indican que los cadetes tienen una alta motivación para liderar. Principalmente, creen que es su deber y responsabilidad asumir el rol de liderar, y no reparan en cálculos de costos/beneficios. Además creen que los líderes militares son más capaces para liderar que otras profesiones, comprenden mejor la lógica de sus subalternos para motivarlos y poseen un vínculo de sacrificio por servir a la institución militar. Finalmente, se observó que el ejemplo personal de los líderes/jefes es muy importante para motivar a los cadetes, así como también un gran factor de desmotivación. Palabras clave Ejemplo personal - Liderazgo - Militares - Motivación para liderar ABSTRACT A STUDY ON THE CHARACTERIZATION OF MILITARY LEADERSHIP BY CADETS OF THE MILITARY COLLEGE OF THE NATION The Armed Forces have to rethink what is the knowledge and the necessary skills of a military leader in a new changing context, with new modes of war but at the same time with more established democratic systems throughout the world.The objectives of this study are to investigate the degree of motivation to lead the cadets, the fundamental characteristics that describe military leadership, and the importance they attach to personal example. A non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive-correlational study was carried out. A self-administered questionnaire was designed and it was applied to 462 cadets of the Military College of the Nation. The results indicate that the cadets have a high motivation to lead. Mainly, they believe that it is their duty and responsibility to assume the role of leading, and they do not pay attention to cost / benefit calculations. They also believe that military leaders are better able to lead than other professions, understand better the logic of their subordinates to motivate them and have a sacrificial link to serve the military institution. Finally, it was observed that the personal example of leaders / cheafs is very important to motivate the cadets, as well as a great factor of demotivation.
