Desde el marco de la psicología de la salud se ha investigado cómo el diagnóstico de ciertas condiciones médicas crónicas afecta significativamente al entorno familiar. La presente investigación se propuso analizar las características del impacto psicológico que tienen las madres de niños con diagnóstico de Síndrome de Down (SD) y las madres de niños con diagnóstico de Trastorno del Espectro Autista (TEA). Para ello se entrevistó a 18 madres, 9 por cada diagnóstico, en la sección de genética médica del Hospital de Niños Dr. Ricardo Gutiérrez (HNRG). Se trata de un estudio de diseño no experimental, descriptivo, de corte transversal. El protocolo administrado consistió en un consentimiento informado, un cuestionario de datos sociodemográficos, y los instrumentos Genetic Health Literacy Screening Tool, Psychological Adaptation Scale, Genetic Counseling Outcome Sacale y Adult Self Report. Como conclusiones preliminares del estudio, sobre madres de niños con SD y TEA pude decirse que: el impacto psicológico repercute de manera más negativa en la salud mental; y de manera más positiva en el empoderamiento, la aceptación del diagnóstico y la comprensión de términos genéticos. As preliminary conclusions of the study, about mothers of children with DS and ASD we can say that: the psychological impact has a more negative impact on mental health; and in a more positive way in the empowerment, the acceptance of the diagnosis and the understanding of genetic terms.
