El test de empatía cognitiva y afectiva es una medida de auto informe conformada por 33 ítems en su versión original en castellano, presenta una estructura de cuatro factores, que evalúa aspectos relacionados con ponerse en el lugar del otro. La empatía se considera un componente fundamental en las relaciones interpersonales y un apreciado atributo diario en la práctica profesional de los médicos; es así como resulta indispensable la existencia de instrumentos que permitan su medición de forma valida y confiable. En este sentido la presente investigación tuvo por objetivo determinar las pro¬piedades psicométricas del test de empatía cognitiva y afectiva en una muestra de 351 participantes (201 médicos generales y 150 población general).Los resultados del análisis factorial, confirmaron la estructura de dos factores, con lo cual no se replicó la versión original; A pesar de ello, puede ser considerada semejante, ya que mantiene la medición de los dos tipos de Empatía que plantean los autores, agrupados en dos dimensiones generales. Se evaluó la fiabilidad a través del coeficiente alfa de Cronbach, se obtuvo un puntaje de .89, para el test total, para la subescala de Empatía Cognitiva fue de .84 y para la subescala de Empatía Afectiva fue de .94.
