Este trabajo se enmarca en una investigación más amplia acerca del bullying y ciberbullying (Secyt, 2018/2023). El acoso escolar y el ciberacoso son conocidos en su expresión inglesa como bullying y cyberbullying. Investigaciones previas concluyen que la palabra bullying no es de fácil traducción en los diferentes idiomas tanto en su uso puramente técnico como cotidiano, y que no existe un acuerdo en la comunidad científica sobre el término en español. Se propone como objetivo explorar las definiciones de bullying y ciberbullying que brindan los y las adolescentes escolarizados y especificar si los roles en ambas conductas introducen diferencias en las definiciones. Se realizó un estudio de tipo cualitativo. Para recabar datos se utilizaron dispositivos grupales (talleres) y grupos focales junto a la observación y registro de producciones. Participaron 228 estudiantes de escuelas secundarias. En los resultados se identifican categorías que nos permiten arribar a una definición de ambos constructos desde la perspectiva de los y las estudiantes. Conclusión: El trabajo demuestra la necesidad de revisar los instrumentos estandarizados de recolección de datos ajustándose a cada lengua y cultura. Palabras clave Adolescente - Bullying - Ciberbullying - Definiciones ABSTRACT BULLYING AND CYBERBULLYING: THE PERSPECTIVE OF SCHOOLED ADOLESCENTS The present research is part of an ongoing investigation about bullying and cyberbullying (Secyt, 2018/2023). In the English language, “bullying” and “cyberbullying” refer to harassment that occurs between students in scholar institutions and online platforms respectively. However, recent research conclude that is not simple to translate these words in different languages, either in their technical or vulgar meaning, and there is not an agreement among the scientific community about the use of these terms in Spanish. The objective is to explore the definitions of bullying and cyberbullying provided by schooled adolescent are enrolled in school and to determine, if the roles in both behaviours introduce differences in the definitions. A qualitative study was carried out. Group techniques such as workshops and focal groups, with production records and notes, were used to collect the data. The sample is constituted of X students from secondary schools. The analysis of the results shows categories that allow us to reach a definition of both constructs from the students’ perspective. Conclusion: This research indicates the need to revise the standardized data collection instruments in order to consider and adapt them to each language and culture.
