El presente trabajo se realizó en el marco de la investigación: “objeto a, fantasma y deseo” (Secyt, UNC, 2020-2021), el objetivo del mismo es indagar por medio de la revisión bibliografía, el termino de función materna en la obra de Lacan, destacando el lugar de Otro primordial que tiene la madre quien habilita vía su deseo el sostenimiento del sujeto en la vida. La función materna implicara una separación del instinto materno, es decir rompe con cualquier intento de articular la maternidad con el condicionamiento biológico del ser gestante, llevando a determinar la intervención de la posición materna dentro del registro simbólico como agente que produce la falta y por ende gesta el deseo en el niño, que conllevara a la primera marca significante que este recibirá instaurándose en el mundo como sujeto, es decir determinando su constitución. Por eso la madre se convierte en el objeto primordial para el sujeto, ya que se pone en juego como Otro quien a su vez proporciona las primeras articulaciones con el objeto a como causa de deseo. The maternal function implies a separation from the maternal instinct, that is, it breaks with any attempt to articulate motherhood with the biological conditioning of the pregnant being, leading to determine the intervention of the maternal position within the symbolic register as an agent that produces the lack and therefore gestates the desire in the child, which will lead to the first significant mark that he will receive by establishing himself in the world as a subject, that is, determining his constitution. That is why the mother becomes the primordial object for the subject, since she comes into play as a Other who in turn provides the first articulations with the object a as cause of desire.
