Este trabajo presenta algunas de las hipótesis más relevantes sobre el origen y la posible función adaptativa de la depresión. La PE, basada en la moderna teoría de la evolución, considera que la selección natural favorece rasgos asociados al éxito reproductivo, es decir, aquellos que incrementan la aptitud de un organismo. Por lo tanto, es posible sostener la hipótesis de que ciertos estados o conductas, en apariencia desadaptativos como la depresión, existen actualmente porque habrían incrementado la aptitud en entornos ancestrales. En este marco revisaremos tres hipótesis. Primero la de Randolph Nesse, quien sostiene que la depresión constituye la alteración de un mecanismo defensivo. Para este autor, la depresión sería el extremo negativo del bajo estado de ánimo. Revisaremos también la Social Navigation Hypothesis que sostiene que la depresión tiene una doble función en la resolución de problemas sociales. La rumiación depresiva mejoraría las capacidades cognitivas para la solución de problemas sociales claves, mientras que la anhedonia y la perturbación psicomotora permitirían convencer a otros significativos para que provean ayuda. Y, por último, el “Bairgaining Model of Depression” que sostiene que la depresión mayor es una forma de renegociar un contrato social que es injusto para una de las partes. Palabras clave Psicología evolucionista Depresión Adaptación ABSTRACT DEPRESSION FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF EVOLUTIONARY PSYCHOLOGY This work introduce some of the most importants hypothesis about the possible adapttative origin and function of depression. The PE, to be based on the modern evolutionary theory, consider that natural selection to improve the appearence o traits who are related whit the reproductive succes, those who increase the organism fitness. Therefore, it is possible to say that depression exist nowadays because depression has been increase fitness in ancestral environments. In this context we review three hyphotesis. First Randolph Nesse hypothesis, who claim that depression it´s a defense alteration. Depression would be the low mood negative highest degree. Second, we review the social Navigation Hyphotesis that claim that depression has a double function in the resolution of social problems. The deprresive rumination woul improve cognitive capacities to solve key social problems, while anhedonia and psicomotor perturbation would allow to persuade significative others to provide help. At last, we consider the Bargaining Model of Depression that hold that mayor depression it´s a way of renegotiate a social contract that is unfare for one of side.
