La Ley de Adopción de Chile Nº 19.620, habilita desde 2004 a que se realicen adopciones individuales y las estadísticas disponibles muestran un aumento progresivo de estas solicitudes, realizadas sobre todo por mujeres solteras.En virtud de ello,resulta fundamental explorar y describir los principales procesos y dinámicas que concurren en estas nuevas prácticas, para que los dispositivos intitucionales y los profesionales cuenten con herramientas que les permitan responder oportuna y responsablemente a esta demanda, evitando actuaciones desde el prejuicio y colaborando a que la modificación legal se transforme en una posibilidad real de conformar un nuevo sistema familiar que posibilite el bienestar de sus integrantes. A partir de la constatación de la inexistencia en Chile de estudios que hayan abordado sistemáticamente este tópico, la investigación en curso “Historias de vida de mujeres que adoptan individualmente: la experiencia chilena”, representa un primer esfuerzo en esa línea. Este trabajo, tiene como propósito exponer y analizar el estado del conocimiento sobre el tema incorporando una perspectiva de género que permita problematizar e interpelar diversos supuestos en torno a la parentalidad que han sido naturalizados desde conceptualizaciones psicosociales tradicionales, para reflexionar sobre las tensiones, desafíos y oportunidades que este tipo de adopciones representa. Abstract AN OVERVIEW OF SINGLE PARENT ADOPTIONS IN CHILE: QUESTIONS FOR SINGLE MOTHERS The Adoption Law No. 19,620 of Chile, from 2004 enables individual to adopt children. The available statistics show a steady increase in these requests,particularly for single women.Therefore,it is essential to explore and describe the major processes and dynamics within these new practices so that institutions and professionals have tools to respond promptly and responsibly to meet this demand and to avoid acting from a place of prejudice against single parent families. The goal is to implement this legislative amendment in order that single parent adoption becomes a real possibility and a new family system is created focused on the welfare and support of its members. Findings indicate an absence of studies in Chile on this topic. Within the body of work available on this topic the work entitled “Life stories of women who adopt individually: the Chilean experience”, represents a first effort to discuss this issue. This work aims to present and analyze the state of knowledge on the subject. It incorporates a gender perspective that allows us to problematize and question various assumptions about parenting that have been formed from traditional psychosocial conceptualizations.It accurately reflects the tensions, challenges and opportunities that this type of adoption presents.
