A partir de una lectura atenta al desarrollo freudiano sobre la constitución psíquica del sujeto, interrogamos la relación biunívoca entre estructura y mecanismo de defensa constitutivo: planteada por algunos estudiosos de la obra de Freud. De acuerdo a esta perspectiva, la represión (Verdrängung) sería el mecanismo de defensa constitutivo de la neurosis, la renegación o desmentida (Verleugnung) de la perversión, y el rechazo, repudio o desestimación (Verwerfung) de la psicosis. Investigamos el concepto de mecanismo de defensa constitutivo y los distintos usos que Freud le confiere a los términos,Verdrängung, Verleugnung y Verwerfung, centrándonos de modo especial en este último. El análisis emprendido apuntó a una complejización del campo de desarrollo freudiano sobre la constitución psíquica del sujeto. En este sentido, la relación biunívoca entre estructura y mecanismo de defensa constitutivo no da cuenta de la amplitud teórica y clínica propia de este campo. Entendemos que, interrogar tal relación implica también precisar sobre qué actúan los “mecanismos”, además de reflexionar sobre el estatuto de los mismos; en el intento, siempre válido, de ir más allá del “mecanicismo”. Palabras Clave Estructura, Mecanismo, Defensa, Verwerfung Abstract FREUD AND THE BIUNIVOCAL RELATION BETWEEN STRUCTURE AND DEFENCE MECHANISM Based on the analysis of Freud’s development on the psychic constitution of the subject, we set out to query the biunivocal or one-to-one relation between structure and constitutional defence mechanism-- as posed by some scholars devoted to Freud’s works. According to this perspective, repression (Verdrängung) would be the constitutional defence mechanism against neurosis, negation or denial (Verleugnung), the constitutional defence mechanism against perversion, and rejection, repudiation or disregard (Verwerfung), the constitutional defence mechanism against psychosis. We will look into the concept of constitutional defence mechanism and the different uses Freud gives to the termsVerdrängung,Verleugnung and Verwerfung,focusing particularly on the latter.Our analysis is aimed at delvingintothegreatercomplexityofthefieldoffreudiandevelopment on the psychic constitution of the subject. In that sense, a one-toone correspondence between structure and constitutional defence mechanism fails to account for the theoretical and clinical breadth of this field. We understand that questioning such correspondence also implies establishing what it is that the “mechanisms” act upon; as well as reflecting on the status of such mechanisms, in an always valid attempt to move beyond “mechanicism”.
