El concepto de dogmatismo teorizado por Rokeach (1960) surgió como alternativa a los desarrollos de la personalidad autoritaria de Adorno et al. (1950) cuya teorización del fenómeno se circunscribía casi en su totalidad a la esfera política y religiosa. El dogmatismo se presentó como una alternativa viable que permitió explicar el fenómeno del autoritarismo más allá de su contenido ideológico, poniendo el énfasis en el plano cognitivo de las creencias que caracterizan su estructura. El objetivo de este trabajo es pasar revista a algunos de los fundamentos principales del concepto, relacionándolo particularmente con el autoritarismo y la intolerancia. (1950) theorization of the phenomenon which is confined almost entirely to the political and religious. Dogmatism was presented as a viable alternative that allowed authoritarianism to explain the phenomenon beyond its ideological content, with an emphasis on the cognitive level of beliefs that characterize its structure.
