Este trabajo se propone abordar la relación entre la formación académica de psicólogos y el contexto de la educación superior en América Latina. Primero se realiza una breve historización de la profesionalización de la psicología en la región. Luego se describen las recomendaciones establecidas en la Conferencia Regional de Educación Superior, realizada en 2008, en Colombia. Por último se establece una serie de contrapuntos entre el devenir de la formación de psicólogos en la región y las recomendaciones más importantes de aquella conferencia.En su conjunto el trabajo plantea la necesidad de contextualizar la formación académica de psicólogos en base a los cambios y transformaciones en el marco de la educación superior en la región.
