El propósito de este trabajo es indagar sobre la posición de la mujer y lo que sucede con su cuerpo cuando recurre a las Técnicas de Reproducción Humana Asistida (TRHA) y analizar las motivaciones que se ponen en juego en ese acto. ¿Qué ocurre con la identidad y la subjetividad en las mujeres, cuando se someten a tratamientos de fertilidad? ¿Cómo viven su cuerpo?, ¿cuáles son sus fantasías? Se analizará el impacto que tienen las TRHA en las mujeres que se someten a estos tratamientos ylos componentes psicológico que atraviesan a estos procesos. Para dicha comprensión se tomará como soporte teórico básico la teoría psicoanalítica. Dada la complejidad del tema, se realizará además un resumido acercamiento teórico y casuístico desde el punto de vista médico y social Los casos singulares que se explicitan en este trabajo están extraídos de fuentes bibliográficas oportunamente datadas y de los testimonios de pacientes. Se analizará el impacto social producido por la TRHA, haciendo un recorrido por la maternidad en la cultura,la maternidad y la mujer, la mujer y las TRHA e incluyendo el análisis del cuerpo de la mujer y su vínculo con el dolor.
