Durante siglos hemos asistido a la división de roles en la sociedad de acuerdo al sexo, y consecuentemente, entre la esfera pública y la privada. Dicho establecimiento de roles genéricos, basados en diferencias sexuales esenciales e inamovibles, permitían al sistema patriarcal otorgar importancia capital a la maternidad. Dado que en los últimos tiempos ha habido un gran número de cambios políticos y socio-económicos en relación a la mujer, proponemos indagar sobre las estructuras simbólicas y las representaciones que a nivel colectivo se tienen en relación a lo femenino, su función social y la maternidad. Consecuentemente, nos preguntamos: ¿Han cambiado los discursos en torno a la maternidad y el rol de la mujer en la sociedad? ¿Cuáles son los impactos subjetivos que conllevan? Analizaremos dichas cuestiones, sosteniendo una perspectiva ética que pueda ir más allá de la moral de la época, intentando deconstruir los conceptos tradicionales en torno a la maternidad y el rol de la mujer. Para ello, nos serviremos de la narrativa cinematográfica, a partir del film “The Hours” (Daldry, Estados Unidos, 2002), ya que muestra las coordenadas históricas, políticas y sociales, enriqueciendo un abordaje que contemple la complejidad que reviste la cuestión en el plano subjetivo. Palabras clave Femineidad, Maternidad, Orden patriarcal, Cine ABSTRACT THE DILEMMA OF FEMININITY: MULTIPLE CONCEPTIONS ABOUT WOMEN’S ROLE FROM CINEMATOGRAPHIC NARRATIVE For centuries we have witnessed the division of roles in society according to the gender, and consequently, between the public eye and private life. This enactment of gender roles, based on sexual differences that appear to be essential and fixed, allowed the patriarchal system to grant major importance to motherhood. Given that in the past few years there has been a great number of political and socio-economical changes regarding women, we decide to interrogate the symbolical structures and social representations in relation to femininity, its social role and motherhood. Consequently, we ask: Have the discourses about motherhood and women’s role in society really changed? What are the subjective impacts that they imply? We will analyze these aspects from an ethical perspective that can go beyond the moral terms of the time, trying to deconstruct traditional concepts about motherhood and women’s role. We will use the cinematographic narrative to do this, with the film “The hours” (2002), because it shows the historical, political and social coordinates, enriching an approach that contemplates the complexity of this issue regarding subjectivity.
