En 1974 Jean Piaget publica un análisis del panorama general del estructuralismo, tanto en ciencias sociales como en exactas, titulado El estructuralismo. El mismo contiene un apartado en torno a Las palabras y las cosas de Michel Foucault que, a pesar de su brevedad, contiene críticas agudas sobre la obra. De allí nos interesan particularmente dos puntos en torno al concepto de episteme: por un lado la lectura que Piaget hace del concepto al vincular a Foucault con el estructuralismo y, por otro, las críticas que podríamos denominar “internas” a la propia propuesta foucaulteana, en particular de corte metodológico. Estas críticas se dirigen finalmente a interrogar la posibilidad o no de un uso en epistemología del método arqueológico foucaulteano. El presente trabajo se propone analizar dichas críticas y situar una posible vía para la reflexión, a partir un análisis de la noción de episteme que contemple la distinción entre ciencia y saber. Para abordar los interrogantes a presentar se tendrán particularmente en cuenta las reflexiones metodológicas que Foucault realiza en los años posteriores a propósito de las críticas recibidas, las cuales, si bien ya se encontraban publicadas al momento en que Piaget realiza su crítica, no fueron incluidas en su análisis. Palabras clave Foucault, Epistemología, Episteme, Saber, Piaget ABSTRACT FOUCAULT AND THE EPISTEME: ABOUT JEAN PIAGET’S CRITICS In 1974 Jean Piaget (1974) published an analysis of the general panorama of structuralism entitled Structuralism. It contains a section about Michel Foucault Words and things, which, despite its brevity, contains sharp criticisms of the work. We are particularly interested in two points about the concept of episteme: about the reading that Piaget makes of the concept in linking Foucault with structuralism and, also, the criticisms that we could call “internal” to the foucaultean proposal itself, particularly about methodology. These criticisms are directed finally to interrogate the possibility or not of a use in epistemology of the archaeological method foucaulteano. The present work intends to analyze these critics and to locate a possible way for the reflection, starting from an analysis of the notion of episteme that contemplates the distinction between science and knowledge. In order to address the questions to be presented, particular attention will be paid to the methodological reflections that Foucault made in the years that followed on the criticisms received, which, although they were already published at the time Piaget criticized, were not included in their analysis.
