En este trabajo se estudia el funcionamiento diferencial (Differential Item Functioning, DIF) según el sexo en ítems de una prueba de matemática. Las respuestas de 415 personas (314 mujeres y 101 varones) a 27 ítems de elección múltiple con tres opciones fueron dicotomizadas como correctas o incorrectas. Se decidió la existencia de DIF al 5% mediante la aplicación de una regla que combina las pruebas: Mantel-Haenszel, Breslow-Day de homogeneidad de los odds ratio y Breslow-Day para la tendencia en la heterogeneidad de los odds ratio. Para mantener el nivel de significación global se realizó el ajuste de Bonferroni. La magnitud del DIF se calculó mediante la diferencia de proporciones estandarizada y el DeltaDIF de Mantel-Haenszel. Tres ítems fueron señalados con DIF por la regla. En el caso del ítem con DIF Unidireccional a favor de los varones, las medidas confirmaron su presencia y sentido. Un cuarto ítem, no señalado por la regla, resultó etiquetado con DIF grande a favor de las mujeres. Los ítems restantes pueden considerarse libres de DIF según los criterios implementados. Para los ítems señalados con DIF por la regla se ensayan interpretaciones en términos de su posible sesgo y se evalúa la conveniencia de su eliminación. The responses of 415 people (314 women and 101 men) to 27 multiple choice items with three options were dichotomized as correct or incorrect. It was decided the existence of DIF at 5% by applying a rule that combines the tests: Mantel-Haenszel, Breslow-Day for homogeneity of the odds ratio and Breslow-Day of trend in odds ratio heterogeneity. To maintain the global level of significance the Bonferroni’s adjustment was performed. The magnitude of DIF was calculated using the standardized difference of proportions and the Delta-DIF of Mantel-Haenszel. Three items were identified with DIF by the rule. In the case of the item with Unidirectional DIF that favors men, the measures confirmed their presence and direction.A fourth item, not indicated by the rule, was labeled with large DIF in favor of women.The remaining items can be considered DIF-free according to the implemented criteria. For the items indicated with DIF by the rule interpretations are tested in terms of their possible bias and the convenience of their elimination is evaluated.
