Objetivo: Se evalúan las actitudes hacia la jubilación y significados sobre dicho evento en un grupo de adultos mayores que asisten a centros de día, y se analizan sus variaciones de acuerdo al género. Método: Se utilizó el diseño descriptivo-comparativo de corte transversal. El cuestionario de datos sociodemográficos, la escala de actitudes hacia la jubilación y el cuestionario de significados acerca de la jubilación fueron administrados a 35 adultos mayores. Resultados y Conclusiones: Sobre la base de los resultados del cálculo de medias aritméticas y la prueba t de Student, 1) se observa que los adultos entrevistados presentan una actitud levemente favorable hacia la jubilación y le otorgan principalmente un significado de “comienzo” y “descanso” y 2) se puede concluir que el género influye sobre estas variables. Existen diferencias significativas entre hombres y mujeres, siendo estas últimas las que presentan una actitud más favorable hacia la jubilación. Esto se podría deber a que el hombre sufre con la jubilación una pérdida de rol fundamental, el de proveedor; mientras que la mujer jubilada mantiene el rol de cuidado y atención del hogar. A GENDER ANALYSIS Aim: This research evaluates attitudes towards retirement and meaning of that event in a group of senior adults attending day centers, and analyzes variations according to gender. Method: A descriptive-comparative design of cross section was used. The socio-demographic questionnaire, the scale of attitudes towards retirement and the questionnaire about retirement meaning were given to 35 seniors. Results and Conclusions: Based on the results of the calculation of arithmetic means and Student’s t test, 1) it is observed that the interviewed seniors have a slightly favorable attitude towards retirement and mainly give a meaning of “beginning” and “rest” to the event and, 2) it is possible to conclude that gender influences these variables. There are significant differences between men and women, being the latter the ones with the most favorable attitude towards retirement.
