Nesta pesquisa objetivou-se uma análise da relação entre o conhecimento de regras de jogos por crianças e o desenvolvimento cognitivo. Doze crianças par-ticiparam e foram divididas em dois grupos: seis com idade entre 4-5 anos e seis entre 7-8 anos. Os dados foram registros em vídeos de situações onde a pesquisadora quebrou regras quando jogava com cada criança. Foi concluído que a imaturidade com conceitos relacionados às regras dos jogos traduziu-se na aceitação e incorporação das jogadas irregulares. Por outro lado, a habili-dade com esses conceitos possibilitou que as crianças explicassem as regras e corrigissem as jogadas incorretas. Além disso, a regulação entre fala e ação nas narrativas revelou-se como uma tendência no jogo por envolver tensão e conflito. Nessa regulação a criança assegurava a mudança do ambiente conflitante. Palabras clave Regras Linguagem Desenvolvimento ABSTRACT RULES OF THE GAME AND LANGUAGE: STUDYING CHILD DEVELOPMENT This study aimed to analyze the relationship between knowledge of the game’s rules and cognitive development. Twelve children were divided into two groups: six aged between 4-5 years and six aged between 7-8 years. The data were videotaped situa-tions where the researcher broke the rules while playing with each child. It was concluded that the immaturity with concepts related to game’s rules resulted in the acceptance and incorporation of incorrect moves. On the other hand, the ability with these concepts improves the children to explain the rules and to cor-rect the incorrect moves. Furthermore, a regulation between speech and action in the narratives was a trend in the game because it involves tension and con-flict.
