Se presenta una revisión bibliográfica de algunas teorías históricas y actuales acerca del trauma, escritas originariamente en inglés. Se postula que para poder entender la recepción de la psicopatología anglo-americana en nuestro medio primero es necesario investigar la construcción de lo que se exporta como saber sobre el tema. El estrés postraumático (TEPT) y la noción de trauma sirven en este trabajo como un caso paradigmático. A primera vista podría parecer que las tempranas teorías freudianas sobre trauma estarían relacionadas con aquellos temas. Esta conexión es paradójica, y a veces, inexistente. El enfoque psicoanalítico freudiano,en su relectura lacaniana-, está completamente en desacuerdo con los actuales teóricos sobre trauma y TEPT. No debe subestimarse la influencia de Janet entre los teóricos modernos, que informa explicaciones y teorías sobre el trauma y el TEPT. I claim that in order to understand the reception of the Anglo-American psychopathology in our country it is first necessary to investigate the construction of what it is said to be exported as knowledge. The posttraumatic stress disorder (PSTD) and the notion of trauma are used as a paradigmatic case. At first glance they may appear to be related with freudian’s early hypothesis on trauma. This connection is paradoxical, and sometimes, inexistent. The psychoanalytic view is in complete disagreement with many actual theorists on trauma. Janet comes to be more likely, for modern theorists, to inform explanations and descriptions about trauma and PSTD. Key words Trauma PTSD Psychopathology History
