En este artículo presento la investigación e intervención (financiada por la Universidad de la República, Facultad de Psicología, Montevideo-Uruguay) que llevé adelante entre 2000 y 2004 sobre las conflictivas relaciones culturales y lingüísticas que se producen entre sordos y oyentes en un liceo que tiene un programa bilingüe para sordos: español/Lengua de Señas Uruguaya (LSU). Se investigó a) la forma en que oyentes y sordos se ven a sí mismos (y a sus lenguas) y son vistos; b) sus diferentes adscripciones identitarias; y c) la frontera que se instaura entre ellos. En relación a esto se pudo comprobar que existen diferencias en la forma en que los sordos construyen la frontera sordo/oyente: como dos grupos que hablan lenguas diferentes (perspectiva lingüística); de la forma en que lo hacen los oyentes: como un grupo que puede oír y el otro no (perspectiva auditiva). Se realizaron estrategias de intervención, básicamente talleres y la publicación de una revista. Estos tuvieron como objetivo: a) la estimulación de una conciencia crítica acerca de las diferentes posiciones y marcos identitarios de cada uno; b) la circulación de las diferentes voces; y c) la generación de competencias interculturales específicas. Palabras Clave sordera intercultural identidad frontera Abstract THE DEAF AND THE HEARING IN AN ORDINARY HIGHSCHOOL: RESARCH AND INTERVENTION IN AN INTERCULTURAL CONTEXT In this paper I present the research and intervention (funded by the Universidad de la República, Facultad de Psicología Montevideo-Uruguay) that I carried out between 2000 and 2004 about the conflictive cultural and linguistic relationships between the Deaf and the Hearing of a highschool that has a bilingual program -Spanish/Uruguayan Sign Language (LSU)- for the Deaf. I studided a) the ways in which the Deaf and the Hearing see themselves (and their languages) and are seen; b) their various-different identities; and c) the border created between them. In this respect we could see that there is a difference between the way the Deaf constuct the border Deaf/Hearing: as two gropus that speak different languages (linguistic perspective); and the way the Hearing do it: as a group that can hear and another that can not (hearing perspective). Basicaly the intervention consisted of workshops and the publication of a magazine. They had as prime purpose: a) fostering a critical awareness of their different possitions and identification frames; b) spreading various voices; and c) generating specific intercultural competentes.
