Los pacientes con esquizofrenia presentan síntomas negativos y positivos. La mayoría presenta alteraciones cognitivas. Existiría una relación entre síntomas positivos y negativos y alteraciones cognitivas, aunque se evidencian resultados contradictorios. El objetivo del presente trabajo es comparar el rendimiento cognitivo entre pacientes con esquizofrenia con síntomas positivos y negativos. Se evaluaron 31 pacientes con esquizofrenia (M=35.61; Escolaridad M=10.7) del Hospital General de Agudos Dr. Teodoro Alvarez. Se administraron pruebas neuropsicológicas: California Verbal Learning Test, Wisconsin Card Sorting Test , Trail Making Test (TMT) A y B, Fluencia verbal fonológica y semántica, y Dígitos inversos y Directos, Matrices, LetrasNúmeros, Dígito-Símbolo. Los resultados indicaron un peor rendimiento en pacientes con síntomas negativos en: Aprendizaje t(29)-2.205, p=0.036; Evocación inmediata libre t(29)=-3.086; p=.004; .y con pistas t(29)=-2.296; p=.029 y evocación diferida libre t(29) =-3.261; p =.003 y con pistas t(29)=-2.767; p=.010 Los resultados indican una diferencia en el perfil de rendimiento cognitivo de acuerdo al diagnóstico, en línea con algunos estudios previos. Estos hallazgos permiten establecer un perfil cognitivo, lo cual podría apoyar al desarrollo de aplicaciones terapéuticas sobre la funcionalidad. Most patients exhibit cognitive impairment, which is associated with poorer functionality. Some studies have reported the relationship between positive and negative symptoms and cognitive impairments. Deficient memory performance has been linked to neuronal alterations in the hippocampus. The aim of this study is to compare cognitive performance between patients with schizophrenia with positive and negative symptoms. Thirty-one patients with schizophrenia were evaluated: 10 with negative symptoms and 21 with positive symptoms. Various cognitive functions were assessed using an evaluation battery: episodic memory, semantic memory, working memory, executive functions (reasoning, inhibition, cognitive flexibility, fluency). The performance of both groups was compared. The results indicated a difference between the groups in verbal episodic memory. These findings suggest a difference in cognitive performance profiles based on diagnosis, consistent with some previous studies. Episodic memory impairment in patients with negative symptoms could be explained by alterations in connectivity in the hippocampus.
