Se informan resultados seleccionados de una investigación dedicada a examinar las creencias de becarios de posgrado en distintos dominios disciplinares. Su objetivo es describir, interpretar y comparar sus creencias acerca de la ciencia como conocimiento constituido, como proceso de producción y como actividad en contextos disciplinares e institucionales. En esta presentación focalizamos los resultados en tres disciplinas del área de Ciencias Sociales. Se exponen resultados relativos a las “Imágenes del investigador: lo que es y lo que hace”. El diseño metodológico combinó tareas de selección de afirmaciones concernientes a la idiosincrasia y aptitudes del investigador con metáforas que sugieren la índole y metas de su quehacer, complementadas con una instancia de elaboración libre para mencionar las actividades desarrolladas por ese investigador. Participaron treinta y seis becarios, distribuidos en tres sub muestras equivalentes. Sobre un trasfondo de ideas compartidas surgen perspectivas específicas vinculadas a las tradiciones y praxis en los campos disciplinares. No obstante, la diferencia más significativa atañe a la imagen del investigador dedicado a descubrir mundos existentes, o bien a construir mundos posibles. Para el primero, la actividad cognitiva enfatiza la normatividad metodológica, para el segundo destaca el involucramiento del sujeto en la construcción del camino de la indagación. Palabras clave Investigador, Imagen, Disciplinas, Becarios ABSTRACT REPRESENTATIONS ABOUT THE RESEARCHER:WHAT THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY DO ON RESEARCHERS’ IN-TRAINING THINKING This work reports results of a research that explores the beliefs of postgraduate scholars from different disciplinary fields. It aims to describe, interpret and compare their beliefs about science as constituted knowledge, as a production process and as an activity in different disciplinary and institutional contexts. In this report we focus on the results from three Social Sciences disciplines related to the representations or images about the researcher, what they consist in and what effect they have. The methodology consisted in selecting statements about the researcher’s idiosyncrasy and skills, which included metaphors about the nature and goals of the job. It also included open-ended statements about the activities carried out by each researcher. Thirty-six graduate scholars organized into three groups participated in this study. From a common shared background there emerge specific views related to each of the disciplinary fields’ traditions and praxes. However, the most significant difference is related to the representation of either the researcher as devoted to unveil existing worlds or that of a builder of possible worlds. For the former, cognitive activity is related to methodological rules, while the latter highlights the subject’s involvement in building up the research path.
