En el presente informe, el tema a profundizar será la inclusión del rol del padre como función distintiva de la madre en la estructura familiar durante los años comprendidos entre 1954 y 1984. Los antecedentes tomados en cuenta provienen de tres fuentes primarias; Florencio Escardó, un destacado pediatra, Eva Giberti y Arminda Aberastury, ambas psicólogas psicoanalistas. Todos ellos son de Argentina, por lo tanto, nos referiremos a la problemática dentro del contexto de este país. En base a ellos, se analizó la historia del rol del padre en relación con el niño, cómo fue avanzando a lo largo del tiempo y qué modificaciones sufrió. En los años sesenta, puntualmente en una conferencia dictada por Florencio Escardó y Eva Giberti en 1965, se preguntaban:“¿Los padres, además de brindarles afecto a los niños hasta la edad de 4 o 5 años, no deben brindarles otro tipo de formación? ¿Cuál sería la función padre y la función madre?” A partir de esto, se plantea la incertidumbre de saber qué dirección debían asumir los padres, en especial, la figura paterna, en un proceso de cambio cultural en la Argentina.
