En la actualidad, el conocimiento acerca de los Trastornos del Espectro Autista (TEA), los servicios de salud y educativos, las coberturas sociales y sanitarias y la investigación en Latinoamérica son limitados y se encuentran desigualmente distribuidos. En 2015, investigadores de Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela y República Dominicana constituyen la Red Latinoamericana del Espectro Autista (REAL) con el fin de llevar a cabo colaboraciones internacionales de investigación. En el presente trabajo se realiza la traducción, la adaptación y la aplicación de la Encuesta de Necesidades de familiares de personas con TEA. La Encuesta se ha administrado a 2965 familiares en los 6 países de REAL. Los resultados ponen de manifiesto la edad en que han notado primeros indicadores de TEA, la edad en que recibieron el diagnóstico, los tratamientos que recibieron, los apoyos que han tenido o que han necesitado, las coberturas sociales y sanitarias, el impacto familiar, laboral y económico del diagnóstico y posterior tratamiento, la estigmatización sufrida por muchas de las familias y personas con TEA. Los datos obtenidos pueden contribuir a brindar información necesaria para las políticas públicas y la atención a las necesidades planteadas por las familias en la región. In 2015, researchers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela and Dominican Republic constituted the Latin American Autism Spectrum Network (Red EspectroAutista Latinoamerica – REAL) in order to conduct international research collaborations related to ASD. The first project undertaken by REAL was the translation, adaptation and implementation of the AS Caregiver Needs Survey.The AS Caregiver Needs Survey was developed by Autism Speaks to assess the needs of families affected by autism in partner countries of its Global Autism Public Health Initiative. It is intended for parents or primary caregivers of individuals with a professional diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.The survey was administered to 2965 families in the 6 countries of REAL. The results show the age they have noticed early indicators of ASD, age receiving the diagnosis,treatments received,the support they have had or have needed social and health coverage, the family impact, labor and economic diagnosis and subsequent treatment, the stigma suffered by many families and individuals with ASD.
