La tarea del equipo de investigación comenzó en octubre de 2011, con la aprobación del Proyecto “Psicología: el sentido de la profesión. Los obstáculos, los límites y los riesgos. Puesta en valor del psicólogo como artesano imperfecto” (UBACyT 2011-2014). Al inicio, las reuniones del equipo se centraron en la discusión sobre el estado del arte, con un enfoque básicamente teórico, analizando objetivos y contenidos para incorporar sugerencias bibliográficas; nuevas informaciones y perspectivas no contempladas. Los objetivos, fundamentos e hipótesis generaron diversas interpretaciones y aclaraciones a fin de lograr consenso. El alcance del concepto “rol profesional” generó debates que giraron acerca del título formal del psicólogo, logrando acuerdos en tal aspecto. Sin embargo, durante el proceso de elaboración de datos, se puso en evidencia la existencia de distintos lenguajes o vocabularios para mencionar cuestiones semejantes, situación que se replicaba debates en el propio equipo de investigación. En tal contexto, este artículo, que se sustenta en resultados parciales obtenidos, consiste en un texto teórico reflexivo acerca de los nuevos desafíos que enfrenta la disciplina en cualquiera de las especialidades. Entre los casos más relevantes, se encuentra el de las personas sometidas bajo influencia de sustancias tóxicas, en consonancia con el tema central del VI Congreso Internacional de Psicología.
