El sistema nervioso está sujeto a permanentes modificaciones en su estructura y funcionamiento como resultado de variaciones en el medio interno y externo. En este sentido, la actividad ocupacional, una de las tareas más extendidas en el ciclo vital de cualquier individuo, sería una variable de consideración en la modificación estructural del encéfalo, como así también en el incremento o detrimento de procesos neurocognitivos específicos. Por lo tanto, el objetivo del presente trabajo ha sido realizar una revisión teórica breve acerca del impacto de la actividad ocupacional en la macroestructura cerebral y/o en procesos neurocognitivos específicos, citando trabajos empíricos paradigmáticos de los últimos años. Para tal cometido, se procedió mediante una búsqueda en las bases de datos Medline y Wiley online Library. Se concluye, a partir de lo observado en músicos profesionales, deportistas de elite, camareros, buzos, conductores de taxi y pilotos, que las demandas ocupacionales ejercen un rol modulador significativo sobre la macroestructura cerebral y/o en procesos neurocognitivos específicos. No obstante, se sugiere elaborar un mayor número de investigaciones que permitan contemplar una variada cantidad de ocupaciones aún nula o escasamente abordadas. In this sense, the occupational activity, one of the tasks more prevalent in the life cycle of any individual, it would be a variable considered in the structural modification of the brain, as well as in the increase or detriment of neurocognitive processes. Therefore, the aim of the present work has been to carry out a theoretical review brief about the impact of occupational activity in the macrostructure brain and/or neurocognitive processes in specific, citing some empirical work paradigmatic shifts in recent years. For this purpose, it is proceeded to carry out a search in the databases Medline and Wiley Online Library. It is concluded from the evidence presented in professional musicians, elite athletes, waiters, divers, taxi drivers and pilots, that the occupational demands exert a significant role in the modulator macrostructure brain and/or neurocognitive processes in specific. However, it is suggested to develop a greater number of investigations that allow for a varied amount of occupations even null or scarcely addressed.
