Frente a las grandes transformaciones en salud reproductiva (nuevas tecnologías), del lugar conquistado por la mujer en la sociedad y en la institución familiar posmoderna, este trabajo busca comprender las transformaciones en los deseos y vivencias de la maternidad, y sus efectos en la subjetividad femenina. Las relaciones entre maternidad e identidad de género aparecen hoy como fuente de conflicto y debate: ideales tradicionales vigentes entran en conflicto con nuevas aspiraciones y prácticas. En base a la experiencia clínica en mujeres de la clase media argentina, y desde el psicoanálisis con perspectiva de género, este trabajo busca trazar el mapa de la problemática: en primer lugar, dar un primer balance de los alcances, sentidos y costos de las nuevas tecnologías reproductivas. Luego, esbozar la conflictiva tríada “feminidad-maternidad-profesión” que configura las tensiones en la identidad de género. La ambigüedad del modelo reproductivo actual se funda en el modo de vida construido por la mujer urbana: así, siguen vigentes fuertes ideales culturales, pero estos entran en conflicto con nuevas prácticas y aspiraciones. Por último, evaluar las representaciones posmodernas de la familia, y de qué manera la ambigüedad entre el ideal y la fragilización afecta las prácticas y vivencias de la maternidad y la paternidad. NEW PRACTICES, NEW REPRESENTATIONS This paper aims to help understand the effects that three mayor changes have had on female subjectivity. These are: scientific advances on reproductive health, women’s social achievements in the past two centuries and changes in the family core. This investigation of today’s ambiguous experience of maternity has a double basis: on one hand, our clinical experience with middle class Argentinian women, and, on the other, the perspective of gender studies in psychoanalysis. This work aims to construct a map of these problems. First to examine the pros and cons of new reproductive technology: giving an indication of the meanings and the costs that this would involve. Second, we present the problems implied in the relationship between femininity, maternity and profession: in other words, how the new role conquered by women has had deep effects in the construction of their gender identity. The current reproduction model is contradictory mostly because of the new life style of urban women which is deeply marked by the struggle between old and new ambitions, values and practices. Finally, we will discuss the representations of the family, showing how the conflict between the received ideal and the fragility of postmoderrn bonds affects the experience of maternity.
