El presente artículo es un breve comentario sobre las dificultades que se le plantean a Freud en relación a la elaboración que lleva adelante sobre la última versión de la angustia, retomando sus concepciones anteriores sobre el origen de la angustia, formuladas en los textos de la Represión y Lo Inconsciente. Por un lado, se intentan plantear, sucintamente, aquellos conceptos que tardíamente en su obra resultarán necesarios para articular y reelaborar el tema de la angustia, según su versión definitiva. Conceptos que se encuentran desarrollados en diferentes textos, y son centrales en su obra: el Complejo de Edipo, la importancia del Falo en la organización infantil y Complejo de Castración. A partir de las puntuaciones freudianas del análisis del pequeño Hans, que se ve llevado a precisar en Inhibición síntoma y angustia, se señala principalmente el problema que se le plantea sobre los dos orígenes de la angustia. Y a partir de allí los desarrollos que lo llevan a la inversión de la fórmula sobre el origen de la angustia: de la represión creadora de angustia, a la angustia generadora de la represión.
