Se presenta la adaptación del TECLE, un test breve (5 minutos) diseñado para estimar el nivel lector y se comunican los primeros estudios en población escolar de Buenos Aires. Los instrumentos de screening, breves y de aplicación colectiva, resultan útiles para fines educativos (detectar sujetos en riesgo, evaluar progresos), clínicos (antes de aplicar una evaluación exhaustiva) y de investigación (para seleccionar muestras de estudio). La aplicación a una muestra de 681 alumnos de 5° a 7° grado mostró que el TECLE resultó sensible para estimar la progresión por grado escolar. El rendimiento no se vio afectado por el sexo pero si estuvo fuertemente influido por el nivel de oportunidades educativas y, en menor medida, por el tipo de gestión (estatal/privada). El estudio de los ítems del test mostró que en su mayoría eran adecuados para los fines que se propone. Palabras clave Lectura Dislexia Nivel lector ABSTRACT A BRIEF TEST TO ASSESS LEVEL READING. The adaptation of the TECLE test, a brief test (5 minutes) designed to estimate reading level is presented, and the first studies of school population of Buenos Aires are informed. Screening, brief and collective administration tools prove useful for educational (to detect individuals at risk, to estimate progress), clinical (before implementing an exhaustive evaluation) and research (to select the samples of the studies) purposes. The administration of the TECLE test in a sample of 681 school children from fifth to seventh grade showed that the test proved sensitive to estimate progress by school grade. The performance was not affected by sex but was strongly influenced by level of educational opportunities and, in a less extent, by type of school (public/private). The analysis of the items of the test showed that most of them was appropriate for the purposes set by the test. Key words Reading Dyslexia Reading level
