Este trabajo busca discutir la oposición que Foucault plantea en su curso de 1975-6, Defender la sociedad, entre Nietzsche y su concepción del poder como lucha de fuerzas y Freud y la tradición psicoanalítica general que concebirían al poder como represión. Para tal efecto, nos centraremos en la teoría de Freud para demostrar (1) cómo la hipótesis represiva es insuficiente para comprender la naturaleza de un poder que también, y sobre todo, opera de manera productiva, y (2) cómo el modelo de la lucha de fuerzas ocupa un lugar central no sólo en Nietzsche sino también en Freud. Esta discusión nos permitirá, por un lado, complejizar el modo en que Foucault plantea la relación Freud y Nietzsche en lo concerniente al poder, y por el otro, nos ayudará a propiciar una mayor participación de la teoría de Freud en los debates actuales sobre el poder y la vida, debates donde la participación de esta teoría ha quedado limitada por su asociación a la mera represión. Palabras clave Lucha - Represión - Freud - Foucault ABSTRACT REPRESSION AND STRUGGLE IN FREUD: DISCUSSION OF THE FOUCAULT´S HYPOTHESIS This work discusses the opposition that Foucault suggests in his 1975-6 course, Society must be defended, between Nietzsche´s conception of power as struggle of forces and Freud and the psychoanalytic tradition which supposedly conceive power as repression of forces. For this, we will focus in Freud´s theory to demonstrate (1) how the repressive hypothesis is not able to grasp, by its own, the nature of a power that operates also in a productive way, and (2) how the struggle of forces model has a central importance not only in Nietzsche but also in Freud. On the one hand, this discussion will help us reformulate in a more complex way how Foucault considers the relationship between Freud and Nietzsche regarding the problem of power, and on the other will promote a major participation of Freud´s theory in the actual debates concerning power and its relation with life, debates in which the participation of this theory has been limited due to its association with repression.
